Artist Showcase | Lou Derry

Lou (Louise) Derry was born in Dar-Es-Salam, in Tanzania. She studied in the UK before moving to Australia in 2000. In 2007 she moved to Cairns, Queensland, where she now lives and works.

Lou’s oil, charcoal and pastel paintings portray the beauty and vastness of the landscape, with its wide-open spaces, vast horizons, and limitless skies. Her works often convey dramatic weather patterns that prevail in Far North Queensland. Human figures rarely appear in her work, though their existence and implied presence is suggested through subtle references and markers.

Lou’s work has been presented in a number of solo and group exhibitions in the region, and her work is represented in private collections in the UK, USA, Europe, Japan, Dubai, New Zealand and Australia.
