Artist Showcase | Shaz Spannenburg
Sharone (Shaz) Spannenberg was born in Nowra, NSW in 1968 and now lives and works in Cairns, Queensland.
Initially a portrait photographer, she recently began exploring digital manipulation within the medium of photography. This new direction involves drawing on architectural themes with a surreal twist, whereby multiple photographs of architectural sites and buildings are surreally placed in new and unexpected environments. In so doing the artist seeks to encourage new ways of viewing and interpreting what we see and understand.
Shaz has been represented in a number of exhibitions, including the Cairns Art Gallery’s FNQ Contemporaries 2022 with a work entitled Surreal Estates of the Tropical North. This work was informed by an eclectic mix of buildings located in Mossman, Ingham, Lucinda, the Atherton Tablelands, Cairns and Innisfail and represented various style of architecture including Academic Classic, Art Deco, Spanish Mission and Streamline Moderne.
