Rosie Lowdown was born in 1963 and spent her early childhood years in the Gulf country around Inkerman and Normanton on the east coast of Cape York.

In the early 1960s she and her family lived in Kowanyama before relocating to Pormpuraaw (Edward River) when she was seven years old. In the mid-1970s she accompanied a local missionary to Melbourne where she spent several weeks experiencing life outside remote communities in far north Queensland. This experience had a big impact on her, and she subsequently completed high school in Herberton, Queensland, while living away from her family.

In 1984 Rosie and her mother returned to Pormpuraaw when her father died. Rosie continues to live and work in Porpmpuraaw and is an active artist at the Pormpuraaw Art Centre.

In 2019 she was represented in the Tarnanthi exhibition, Adelaide, and the Cairns Art Gallery’s ARTNOW FNQ exhibition.

She is represented by the Pormpuraaw Art & Culture Centre, Queensland.
