Madge Bowen was born in Yarrabah, Queensland, in 1944. She currently lives and works in Hope Vale, on the east coast of Cape York, Queensland. 

Madge’s richly painted landscapes convey her deep connection to her country, Bulgan (Kings Plains, Cape York), and the many culturally significant sites and places in the surrounding region. 

Madge belongs to the Gamba Gamba (senior women group) at the Hope Vale Art Centre. She and other women in the group hold deep cultural knowledge of family kinship systems, sacred sites, characters and totems. References to these are evident in her art and she is passionate about recording traditional stories for future generations.

Madge is a regular exhibitor at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair and her work is represented in the Cairns Art Gallery Collection, Queensland.

She is represented by the HopeVale Arts & Cultural Centre, Queensland.
