Claudia Moodoonuthi was born on Bentinck Island, Queensland, in 1995. She spent her early years growing up with her grandmother on Bentinck and Mornington Islands, in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Claudia is passionate about her culture, and the traditional ways of both the Lardil and Kayarild peoples.
In 2003, Claudia moved to Aurukun, Queensland, to live with extended family and learn about Wik Mungkan beliefs and customs.
Claudia began painting when she was 16 years old, and her work continues to pay tribute to her people, culture and country. In 2016 – 2017, her work was featured in Who’s Afraid of Colour at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV, Melbourne, and she has subsequently been represented in major exhibitions around Australia and received a number of public art commissions.
Claudia’s works are represented in public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, and the Cairns Art Gallery, Queensland.
She is represented by Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne.
