Artist Showcase | Hannah Parker

Hannah Parker lives and works in Cairns and majored in printmaking and writing at the University of Wollongong. Her Irish, Scottish and Shetland Island ancestry has given her a particular fascination for Selkie myths and oral storytelling.

Through printmaking and writing she has developed imagery and ideas that engage people of all ages in the stories and myths evident in her work. Recently however, Hannah has turned to landscape painting, using watercolour to record places through which she has travelled, including the remote communities of Cape York peninsula. In 2020 she took a more abstract approach to landscape using large etching plates to develop line and textural qualities to explore the layering of local histories and personal stories in her artwork.

Hannah’s creative processes are based on a participatory approach, often working with other artists and Indigenous community artists to run storytelling workshops and school programs.

Since 2000 Hannah has exhibited extensively and has held several solo exhibitions. Her works is represented in numerous public and private collections in Australia, USA and Italy.
