Open to creative practitioners from all art, craft and design disciplines, at any stage of their career development, who are Australian citizens or permanent residents living in the region from Cardwell in the south to Normanton and Mornington Island in the west to the Torres Strait Islands in the north.
In partnership with the Cairns RSL Club the Cairns Art Gallery is offering six Fellowships of $7,500 each that will provide financial support for the artists to develop a new body of work for a solo exhibition at the Gallery. Three Fellowships will be awarded in 2021 and three in 2022.
Fifteen artists were shortlisted for the 2021 Fellowships from over 100 submissions by the judging panel comprising of Janina Harding, Artistic Director, Cairns Indigenous Art Fair; José Da Silva, Director, UNSW Galleries; and Andrea May Churcher, Director, Cairns Art Gallery.
The 2021 FNQ Contemporaries exhibition presents work by the shortlisted artists. The three artists to receive the 2021 Fellowships are Janet Fieldhouse, Mahar Gorospe-Lockie and Francesca Rosa.
