Fiona Elisala-Mosby was born on Thursday Island in 1985 and is a mid-career Torres Strait Islander artist.

Fiona studied at the Queensland College of Art, majoring in printmaking, especially linocut, etching and screen printing. Growing up on the islands, Fiona was taught traditional weaving techniques by her grandmother and in recent years she continues to explore new media through her work with other artists at Moa Arts.

Fiona is passionate about her culture and is committed to being a strong role model for the younger generation growing up on Moa Island. Through her art she wants to impart her knowledge of culture and traditional ways and tell her stories to other island woman who seeks to preserve and embrace the cultural rights and heritage of her people. ‘Art is my tool to visually communicate my personal values and beliefs’, she says.

Fiona has been represented in several group exhibitions, including Longwater: Fibre Stories at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane, in 2020.

She is represented by Moa Arts, Queensland
